Our Process

Approach to funding

Why we give:

Women Helping Women Fund provides funds to programs in the Spokane community that ensure women and children have opportunities to reach their highest potential.

We’re selective about the organizations we fund:

Our Allocations Committee conducts extensive research— including a thorough needs assessment—in order to identify the organizations best equipped to meet the needs of women and children. We’re equitable in the grant-writing application process so everyone has a fair chance, not just professional grant writers. Applicants are carefully screened, evaluated by financial reviewers, and visited by our Board of Directors.

Making sure we fund long-term solutions:

We focus on measurable results. Grant recipients are required to report twice on the impact of the funds, and we’re committed to assuring previously unmet needs are being met in the community, collaboration is demonstrated with other programs, and recipients are sufficiently giving back.

Funding focus areas

We have expanded funding opportunities to include programs that offer preventive strategies and/or proactive initiatives in one or more of the following areas:

  • Education
  • Basic Needs and Healthy Lifestyles
  • Increasing Financial Stability and Opportunity

Any 501(c)(3) agency operating within Spokane County, Washington, which offers or envisions a program serving woman and/or children in the aforementioned areas, is encouraged to review our application materials and consider applying for funding. Grants are generally $5,000-$25,000.

PLEASE NOTE: Grant applications are accepted in the fall and funds are distributed the following June. Application materials for the 2018-19 funding cycle will be available in the fall of 2017.
